Groundwork Hudson Valley and the Science Barge will be participating in the 2009 Teaching the Hudson Valley Summer Institute. For more information go to teachingthehudsonvalley.org/ Celebrate River Day 2009 on the Science Barge! Come to our Science Barge training session Thursday 5/28 if you are interested in volunteering on the Science Barge as a weekend docent. The training will be held from 6pm-8pm. We are beginning to take submissions for our First Annual Floating Sculpture Exhibition on The Science Barge. This is part of the Quadricentenial Hudson Celebration! For information on upcoming Science Barge events click here. Save the date! The Science Barge will begin its first season in Yonkers on Saturday and Sunday April 25th and 26th. It will be open for tours and "Grow your own heirloom tomato" workshops (while supplies last). On Sunday, April 19th (Westchester County's Pitch in for Parks Day) from 11-3pm The Saw Mill River Coalition and the Suburbia Roller Derby will host "Rollin' on the River- An Environmental Triathlon." A Goldman Sachs Community Team Works group did great work along the Saw Mill River last week, weeding and seeding a wildflower meadown, cutting vines and planting nearly 80 trees and shrubs! The Science Barge was included in National Geographic's "Saving Energy Starts at Home" March issue. Groundwork's Saw Mill River Coalition is awarded the prestigious EPA Targeted Watersheds Grant at a press event Tuesday, December 2. Thanks very much to our distinguished speakers, among them Congresswoman Nita Lowey, Congressman Eliot Engel, mayors from Irvington and Yonkers, and EPA Region 2 Administrator Alan Steinberg, and many others.
